Who we are
Hyrax is a family-owned property development practice based in Canterbury. We're a small team, involved in every home from finding the right site through to settlement. It means the decisions are made by the same people who will ultimately stand behind them.
We approach every project with a simple question: would we choose to live here ourselves? Not just when the home is new, but years from now, after weather, wear and the rhythms of everyday life.
We work across Canterbury, approaching each site on its own terms. The street, the light, the surrounding homes and the way people will live there all shape what we create, because a home should feel right in its place long after the first photograph is taken.
How a project proceeds.
From site selection through design, construction and handover, every stage is considered. We give design the time it deserves.
Site
The site has to suit the home. Sun, access, the street, and the character of the area decide whether a project goes ahead.
Design
This is where the home takes shape: how it will be lived in, how it responds to the sun and the street, and how it will stand up to a decade of Canterbury weather.
Build
We build with people we know and trust, and stay closely involved throughout construction. From the details you see to those you don’t, we make sure the decisions made during design are carried through into the finished home.
Handover
We stay involved right through to settlement, making sure the home is finished as intended before the keys are yours. We live in the communities we build in, so the standard has to hold up in everyday life, not just look good in a brochure.
